📀 Rhythm Section @ Venue MOT 📀
Rhythm Section makes a big splash after a brief break in January with our first show of the year and our first visit to S.E London Institution VENUE MOT. Taking the spirit of the venue into account, we flex the upper reaches of our BPM repertoire with a line up leaning towards the faster techy, proggy, bassy and all out ravey end of the Rhythm Section spectrum.
NALA BROWN has been making major waves in the last few years... Graduating from the Rotterdam school of Electro that has birthed so many greats, she's been honing her own unique sound which takes in the city's signature sounds with a decidedly global, bass forward approach equally indebted to techno and jungle as it is to dubstep and bubblin' - the Hybrid Afro-Carribean club sound native to Rotterdam. Having recently played with the likes of Skream & Benga, Bambounou, Fiyahdread, Skin on Skin, Juliana Huxtable, Identified Patient and Martyn it's no surprise DJ MAG has named her as ONE TO WATCH in 2024. Truth is we've been watching for a while - and after seeing her shut down the Rhythm Section ADE party in 2022 - we know we're in for a masterclass! She'll be starting the year with us hot on the heels of shows at Panorama Bar, Boiler Room and de School.
We're hyped BOULDERHEAD has been quietly burrowing his way into the collective subconscious of the dancefloor massive for the last few years. Have you heard that bouncy tech-house tune with spoken word about Bread, Butter, Noodles, spice ? That's him.... He's quietly put out a series of killer EPs on Craigie Knowes, Small Hours, Running Out Of Steam, Gestalt & Limousine Dream - all having worked there way into the bags of many an influential DJ. His sound sits in the sweet spot between tech-house, Progressive, bruk inspired percussion and Minimal Techno - like early morning Ricardo Villalobos pitched up on a wobbly one. It was a pleasure to work with him on the last edition of SHOUTS and we have an EP in the works for later this year. Cute fact: it all started with a demo sent via bandcamp back in 2015 :)
CLUB WINSTON x MAXIMUM HAZE will be going back to back in an asserted effort to blow the roof off of MOT. The BUBBLE CHAMBER residents know a thing or 2 about igniting dance floors into a fevered frenzy and we're most excited to have them join us for this good old warehouse rave. Club Winston released one of the best EP's of 2023 "OK, ENOUGH" which took in hyper-pop sound design sensibilities, techno dynamics and anything-goes rave tropes to create something totally new and most of all, incredibly fun! Never ones to take themselves too seriously - these are 2 fellas who bring the party energy by any means necessary in a sense that belies their encyclopaedic knowledge of club culture and increasingly advanced productions. Max also moonlights as head programmer at colour factory so it's nice to get him out of the office for a little jolly in S.E London !
MLE is the Electro-queen of Rhythm Section - Berlin based, but increasingly back in the UK for special events such as this, she's the perfect choice from Team RS to hold thing down as we traverse the upper BPM's. SHe's been making big waves in Deutschland with her CLUB PAINT series and has played a crucial role in growing the Rhythm Section Label, especially with her curation of our annual Shouts comp.
